Local computer store had refurbs for $12.99, so i picked one up and got MotionInJoy. Seems to work well as a basic joystick driver, but I can't get XBox 360 gamepad emulation working.

Umm, the Logitech Cordless Precision is Logitech's knock-off Dual Shock gamepad.

It gets listed in the devices list as a PS3 gamepad in Windows, and functions nicely as a set of input axes. I just find that games that are looking for an X-Box gamepad don't seem to like it.

Did the controller work without MiJ? If so there are other programs out there that will emulate a xbox 360 controller for any controller it finds.

MiJ doesn't do well with clone/knock off controllers.

Y'know, dumb as I am, I didn't test without installing MiJ first.

lol. Try not using MiJ and see if it works without MiJ.

Also does the instruction manual booklet give you instructions on how to hook it up to your PC? If so try following those instructions.
